No rain, no rainbows.
A Vancouver Islander’s guide to embracing the weather on your wedding day.
Spoiler alert, I vote rain.
It’s easy to photograph weddings in ideal sunset conditions. Reality is… that’s not always the case, especially here on Vancouver Island and the West Coast.
Rainy weddings are beautiful, and some of my all time favourite images happened in a downpour. Here’s how to embrace the weather on your wedding day.

Hire vendors who can handle all of the elements
Have you seen any images of theirs in a downpour? Ask!

Have a rain backup plan. Always.
Even if the forecast is perfect.

Roll with what your day brings
It’s so important to try and embrace the elements and roll with the change of weather. It can certainly make things challenging (for me too) but, in the end… it’s your day, and if you just roll with it, I guarantee you’ll have more fun and everyone else will too. It’s supposed to be enjoyable!

Be prepared to get a little wet
Umbrellas, a cozy wrap, maybe some gumboots for photos. It’s all part of the story.

Gush about it later
In hindsight, your rainy wedding is going to be memorable. You’ll be telling that story for years.

What I bring to a rainy wedding day
An oversized rain coat to keep all my gear dry, towels to dry gear between shots, and umbrellas. Clear umbrellas are best, as they allow the light to still reach your faces. Most of all, I bring a positive attitude. I’ll be right there reassuring you that I’m capturing the beauty of your day, rain and all.
