Feelin lucky....

I entered a contest a while back called "kids being kids", just for fun... and I won. If you pick up this months copy of Photo Life, you'll see my photo in it.

Twice in one month, that's it, I'm entering more! Feeling lucky!

The image was of the most amazing little girl named Ryann, she was hamming it up for the camera and being so darn adorable, I felt more people should see her and all of her amazing energy!

More posts to come from this past weekends shoots... stay tuned.

When time stands still....

Over the weekend, I was honored to capture images of Erin and Todd's wedding at Tigh-na-mara in Parksville. Beautiful weather, STUNNING Bride, handsome groom, beautiful children everywhere... what more could I possibly ask for.

I don't know why I rarely post the very candid moments from weddings, especially as they are usually my favorites. It is the photojournalist in me, that longs to just stay amidst the crowd and capture people as they truly are. The honest moments between a mother and her baby girl, within friendships, the truth behind the story, the looks, the glances, the laughter and even more beautiful the swollen silences. A fathers pride, a child's innocence, a brides hopeful eyes... all moments that make my work, not even work at all. I have included some of my favorite moments from Erin and Todd's amazing wedding.

Make my day... leave a comment... I dare you.

a bit of recognition never hurt...

Well folks its official. Erin Wallis Photography has placed second in the WedComp International Wedding Image contest, under the "Portrait" category!!!

Generally, I don't enter contests, don't join photo groups, forums or clubs. Although I realize its a wonderful way to network and learn. At times I find it all a bit like information overload, and its all a bit hard to swallow. But then again, I did spend a great deal of my life working around 15 different photographers at all times, from all different backgrounds and walks of life... so I am not opposed to the idea. I'm just blazing my own little path here, I suppose.

Last year, I decided to enter a photo contest randomly. Much to my surprise, I placed second in the portrait category. It was certainly unexpected as the sheer volume of submissions are overwhelming, but I am truly honored to place at all. (not to mention the talented photographers that entered)

For so many reasons the above image of Kim Black is an instant favorite, and although I know I love it, and my mom loves it... it certainly is nice to be recognized by my peers, and some of the leading photographers in the industry. Thank you!!!

I've also just noticed that another image of the beautiful Katy, placed 15th as well. Maybe I should enter more competitions? Off to a wonderful wedding tomorrow in Parksville... beaming with joy.

Babies and Blessings

Two beautiful baby boys. Two incredibly wonderful parents. Supportive, loving friends and family.

I spent the weekend gloriously re-living old memories, mopping up baby puke, laughing hysterically with wonderful friends and being surrounded by love. I love old friendships that never grow old. I love that we've gone through long absences from each others lives... but put us in a room together for four days, and our friendship proves to have never missed a beat. That is beauty. That, and the fact that one of my oldest friends has created with her amazing husband two of the most gorgeous babies, ever. Grayson and Logan stole our hearts on the first day, and continue to melt mine now. I feel so honored to have friends who are so amazing. Sarah, the mother of twins seen here makes her own yogurt! Give me a break, I can barely organize breakfast for myself most days... She has the household running like a seasoned professional. Clean laundry, clean happy healthy babies, and an environment of love so thick in the house its overwhelming.

I am honored to call these folks friends.

Truly no other way I can describe the immense amount of love and devotion you feel with this beautiful clan, than with the following images.

Recharged Batteries=Inspiration Overload

I LOVE shooting weddings in the not so busy season. Talk about being excited to shoot a wedding. I was vibrating, ready to create art! Ready to see magic, and to let it seep through my cameras, and through my bones. I was ready, delighted by the chilly March air, the beautiful bursts of sunlight, and the giant fluffy clouds. I was compelled by the sweet, and lovely bride, and moved by the handsome and gentle groom.

I am so lucky to have such fabulous people in my world. I truly couldn't imagine doing anything different with my time, my life, or my energy. Amazing.

Thank you both so much for inviting me into your world and trusting me with your wedding photographs. What beautiful people you are, and what beautiful people surround you as well. Here is what I saw. I love this image, the long winding road, the tone, the way they are walking...
