Karen and Jesse met sailing the seas onboard Princess cruise ships with a shared love of video. These two talented humans make up one of Vancouver Islands favourite wedding videography teams Painted Sky Films . They travelled the world together onboard ships and worked with a few of my very favourite humans on board ships. Jesse reached out to me before we shot our first island wedding together and as soon as we met I felt like I was reconnecting with a kindred spirit. Cruising is a small world and the connections you make at sea often stay with you for a lifetime. Later when I received an email from Karen and Jesse asking if I would photograph their wedding I not only felt incredibly honoured but also seriously excited. I knew they would be surrounded with good people, and a good time.
As anticipated it was a beautiful day, with gorgeous humans and soulful connections in the stunning Quadra Island laid back atmosphere at Gowlland Harbour Resort.

At times, you are just full of inspiration. Other times, you need a little help.
For me, inspiration comes in many different forms.
An email, a conversation, a little rain, old books, the wind, the sky, a look of compassion or love passing between two people. Children making art, a nickname, a life story, someone inspired, a wedding created exploding with details. A couple in love. A bride inspired by the property on Quadra Island that she grew up on, full of whimsy, history, an apple orchard, old vehicles and signs, not to mention quirky awesomeness.
Take a journey with us, on Crystal and Evan's amazing wedding. May you be as swept away in it, as we were.

Rings custom made for the bride and groom, with their fingerprints etched on the inside of each ring.

A book full of history, their wedding fell on Crystals great grandparents wedding anniversary and her grandma's birthday.

They got ready together, which I love.

A speech tucked inside a bridesmaids shoe.

Rain= inspiration.

Brother sister love
A sweet ceremony under the weeping willow.

Grandpa Bill and his disposable camera, winding and clicking through the whole ceremony. Priceless.

Detail. Details. Details.

A fabulous and fun polariod station.

Bright, wise, and full of life. Was my initial reaction upon meeting Katie and her family on Saturday at their wonderful (built and designed by dads hands) home on Quadra Island.
From the moment I stepped onto their property, I understood what made them all so unique. They are inspired, passionate and adventurous. A marvelous combination. From the unique wedding dress, to the art work that covers their house, to the giant happy fun family photos on the walls or the authentically Mexican themed bathroom ... I knew, their Quadra Island wedding would be amazing.
Sorry, but makeup alone, doesn't make you this pretty.
I told you, radiant. Relaxed. Excited.

Cool. Collected and Calm.
Again, I'm not a huge ring shot fan... but Katie's aunties artwork, makes for an incredible setting for their beautifully simply gold bands.
Their beautiful ceremony at

So happy. So handsome!
An excited congratulations from Grandma.
Brothers and Sisters and laughter. A wildly beautiful combination.

You can't make images like this, without a lot of love. Impossible.

May the world shower nothing but blessings on you both, always.
