2011: Wedding favorites

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Favorite images.
What makes them a favorite. Why do they stand out {to me} {to you}. Sometimes it’s hard to know exactly why an image speaks a little stronger than the others. For the most part, I have images that I love from the moment they appear in my camera, then later on in my computer screen. I instantly connect with something about them.

In any favorite photograph it might be a quiet about it, a sweetness, maybe the light, the colors, the feeling. The people always draw me in as well, their stories, their connections and passions. Or it could be the wind, the movement, the joy, swollen anticipation or emotions… but it’s always about some breathtakingly beautiful… stolen moment. Frozen in time.
I have favorites from 2011.
Here are some.

A season opener

This past Saturday marks the beginning of my career postpartum. Life can now be defined to some extent as before Maisie and after.

Having a two month old baby, and getting back to work full time has its fair share of challenges. But, we are doing our best. The challenges aren’t exactly during the sessions, or during the weddings… its the before and afters that are proving to be tricky. So, be gentle with me. If it takes me a day or two longer to respond, or call back etc… just know that it may feel like I’m ignoring you, but I promise, I’m not. I’m just doing my best to ensure that my 9 week old baby isn’t neglected, and has more love than she needs from me to get her through the times when I can’t be there for her. When I get to the wedding, the session, the meeting. I’m there 100%, and am loving it. However that wouldn’t be possible if I felt like my little Maisie wasn’t being taken care of 100%.

So, the emails and call backs may take a day or two longer, but my baby is happy and healthy and loved. To me, its the only way.

In saying that, I can’t imagine starting off my wedding season with anyone else but Sean and Kate.
A beautiful day at Dolphins Resort, stunning bride, gorgeous guests, loving family members… a perfect way to spend my Saturday.

Warm, inviting, and full of love. This day, was perfect.
I love how Kate just radiates. Amazing.
I also love how much I love photography.

It’s good to be back.

Well, I have a lot to catch up on.
Rebecca and Steve were married at Painters Lodge, in Campbell River.

You may remember them from this post.
This was their day, as I saw it on August 7 2009.

Katie and Brandon

Quadra Island at its bestBright, wise, and full of life. Was my initial reaction upon meeting Katie and her family on Saturday at their wonderful (built and designed by dads hands) home on Quadra Island.

From the moment I stepped onto their property, I understood what made them all so unique. They are inspired, passionate and adventurous. A marvelous combination. From the unique wedding dress, to the art work that covers their house, to the giant happy fun family photos on the walls or the authentically Mexican themed bathroom … I knew, their Quadra Island wedding would be amazing.

Katie, was radiant. Relaxed. Excited. Brandon, was cool. Collected. Calm.
Together, these two make wedding photography the most incredibly rewarding experience. Again, real moments= real magic.

Katie and Brandon…I told you on Saturday, but will let you know again… you both are pure magic.

Below Katie’s sisters contemplate her makeup… it got hilarious, when they realized they could quickly turn into the ‘evil sister’s role…

Sorry, but makeup alone, doesn’t make you this pretty.

Again, I’m not a huge ring shot fan… but Katie’s aunties artwork, makes for an incredible setting for their beautifully simply gold bands.

Larissa Jordan
Before I get sidetracked with another 2 weddings this weekend, I must share a bit of Larissa and Jordan with you. Their wedding was held at The Filberg grounds, and reception followed at Crown Isle, in Comox BC.
My words right now are few… but the images hopefully will tell the story for me.
