I have so much to share. I have no idea how to get it all on here!
A really awesome post containing images and story (history really) of a long line of photographers in my family. Of which I was unaware!!
Then we have a gorgeous family, a wonderful couple, a recent grad, and a new baby…. 2 weddings…
So… lets start with Saturday’s wedding.

Katie and Kyle.

The girls getting ready consisted of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. The guys getting ready? KFC and Lucky. Hilarious and very entertaining!

Katie looked at me, and said when I arrived “You can fix this right” (the pouring rain) My response, “Absolutely I love it. It doesn’t even phase me”.
In fact, these days rain + wedding= inspiration overload. If you can deal with a bit of dirt on the dress, a bit of water… well, I’m in. I’m your gal.

It was sprinkling with rain, then it was pouring, then it was really pouring. Then it was silver light and dramatic clouds and a bit of blue sky. None of it could have been more perfect. In my mind, if I can feel the rain, it means I am alive. If I am alive, I have the opportunity to create. If I can create, anything is possible.

And besides, if there is no rain, there is no dramatic clouds or light. If there is no dramatic clouds or light… life is no fun. Here are a few of my favorite images from Saturday.

Katie has a radiant smile. Truly.

Andrea and Mike

I always worry as I drive away from each and every wedding, that I haven’t taken enough images, that the photos will be just ‘ok’ that people won’t like them. EVERY wedding. It’s getting a bit old, so I never vocalize these thoughts… they are just my inner worries.

I drove away from Andrea and Mike’s wedding in Nanaimo BC, confident that I had gotten everything, every detail and moment I could, but hoping that I had done their day justice. Against my better judgement, I’m just going to say it… I nailed it. Editing these photos today, made me very happy.

I believe I am in for an incredible year. With this much beauty and love and inspiration around, I can’t see it any other way. Andrea and Mike, you two have chemistry that is infectious. I wish you nothing but happiness, always.

LOVE getting ready shots…

In a very calm grooms hands, a flower.

Are you kidding me!! A favorite ceremony moment!

Andrea and her little sister, love how sweet they are together.

I truly love this image of Andrea after the ceremony

They are so effortless together

I absolutely love this one, it looks so great BIG. (I’m thinking studio canvas for sure)

A fun moment on some wild rocks!

Love a bride who will hike all over in her heels!

And what wedding would be complete without a big sky shot?

Memoirs of a Wedding Photographer “2008″

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Is it possible that an entire year has breezed past us again?
Apparently so. I find it incredibly hard to believe that in just 4 months, I have been involved with thirty couples getting married in Campbell River, and all over Vancouver Island. THIRTY. To think that about three years ago I would start off with five booked weddings. Four years ago, I had two… and now, Thirty.

To all of my 2008 love infused couples, you swept me off my feet, inspired me, challenged me and trusted me, none of which, I take for granted! Each wedding, more love, more emotion, deep breaths, life choices, heartfelt speeches, juicy happy tears, and all incredibly unique moments. I am honored. Always. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

I am actually a bit overwhelmed at the task of choosing only a few… so there may be more than a few!

Consider these images, my personal memoirs from 2008…
I can barely contain my excitement at having a whole new year, the ol’ blank canvas… to create as much art as humanly possible. Let’s pour our whole souls out this year people! Why not!!! Here’s hoping that these images make you smile, inspire you, stir emotion, or even brighten your day.

Bring on 2009!

Dave and Sarah

dave and sarah outside of the travellers hotel in ladysmithDave contacted me over a year ago from his home in Australia. He and Sarah had met while Sarah was traveling in Australia, and they were getting married here on Vancouver Island.

They had traveled far, worked hard, and were ready to enjoy their day! My favorite moment may have been when Sarah pulled out Ruby Red Shoes, and said…. what do you think??? WHAT DO I THINK??? Let’s do it!!! So we did.
The gals got ready @ Fernwood B&B just outside of Ladysmith. Tucked away in a little cabin in the woods, it felt like I was in a blend of the Wizard of Oz with the Ruby Reds, and Goldilocks with the perfect little cabin in the woods. Jan of Fernwood was great, and I even had an up close and personal with one of her resident raccoons (with one eye). Quite the experience.

Sarah and Dave were so wonderful to work with, putting complete faith in me, succumbing to all of my wild request…. ‘don’t worry, just lay down on these rocks’…

Such a fabulous day. Such a great couple!
Let me know if you have any favorites!!!

A Few Good Tears

Rainy Wedding on Hornby Island
It’s been a good few years…

With an updated website, a new blog, rejuvenated creative energy and a sunny disposition, I am ready for another exciting wedding season!

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, a lot of breathing, and not to mention a lot of living, and I’ve come up with one thing that I know for sure.

I am grateful, for everything, always.

I feel so lucky to love what I do and have others reciprocate the feeling. I am overwhelmed and in disbelief at the emotional response people have been displaying for my photographs, but it makes me believe, that I’m doing something right…that I’m on the right track. Looking through past client emails, I was shocked by one underlying, and humbling fact…I’M MAKING PEOPLE CRY!

“I feel like crying!”
“Almost got a little teary eyed…ok i lied, there were tears!!”
“I just wanted to cry!”
“You brought tears to my eyes (of course, good tears)”
“they almost made me cry just looking at them.”
“and you actually made me cry!!!”

I’m making people cry?!

Now granted, normally that’s not a good thing to do. Nobody wants to be the person to make others cry, we learned that early in life! But good tears, happy tears, I think are much different. Happy tears are ok. I am grateful. Always.

So to open up my shiny new blog (courtesy of the incredible Jeremy Latham, without whom, I’d be unsuccessful – without a website, blog, or even business cards). I’d like to thank you all for visiting, for joining me on my photographic journey, for supporting me, for believing in me and share some of my favourite wedding images from 2007. I look forward to sharing many more from 2008.
