Black Rock Resort Wedding
The Black Rock Oceanfront Resort in Ucluelet BC, is not only a stunning resort. But an amazing west coast wedding venue as well. The staff are wonderful, the rooms exquisite and the views breathtaking. Situated amongst the rocky bluffs of Ucluelet, it perfectly captures the feeling and ambiance of everything we love about the west coast.

Laura and Kevin live in Edmonton, and chose Black Rock as their first choice for a Vancouver Island destination wedding. Their wedding was really a wonderful weekend, full with family, friends and good times. Here is my interpretation of their extraordinary wedding.

Bryce Me and Frank
There are so many thoughts, feelings and emotions that surface when I reflect on this past weekend.

I think back on an entire summer. Every weekend occupied with at least one, if not two weddings. Looking back and realizing that all of my weekends and most of my week days are consumed with stuff. Not in a negative way, in just a full way. Full. Full days. Lists. For both Bryce and I. Every spare second spent on the construction of our new studio and 2 bedroom suite. Every single moment, occupied. Delighting in the small moments of together-ness. The spaces between meetings and emails and Bryce cleaning the kitchen, and calling contractors and setting up appointments and learning to do things we’ve never done. Both of us have been gypsies before. Bryce traveling all over the States and Germany for hockey, myself globe trotting on cruise ships. Both of us, having little ‘real’ responsibilities. Truly. So, for us.. these last two years settling into a ‘normal’ life has had its fair share of ups and downs.

So when we are able to get away. Able to step back from the every day life… I am overwhelmed with how incredibly blessed I am. I can say that now, without fear that it will all come crumbling apart. I know it can. I’ve seen it happen, felt it happening. I know that life is impermanent, and fragile. But isn’t that why, its okay for me, for us… to celebrate when things are really good. I believe so.

This weekend Bryce, Frank and I spent the weekend in Ucluelet, BC. Staying at the beautiful Black Rock Resort. I photographed a wedding (more on that later) there on Sunday. So we decided to take and extra night and make it just about us. It was perfect. I am so lucky, so blessed and so indescribably grateful to have the luxury to walk along the beach hand in hand with my fella. Laugh at our puppy ripping around the magical sands of Long Beach, British Columbia. I could have stayed forever. We’ll be going back soon and staying for longer. What a fabulous way to enjoy each other, and life.

Grateful. So grateful. To step back. To be drawn to what has been drawing me to Bryce for fifteen years. Without dishes, and chores, and fence building and lists. It was also a celebration of Franks first year in the world. (what a wild year it has been for him too) It was really only one day and night for a vacation. But what a necessary and wonderful step back.

P.S… the best part of the Black Rock Resort, it is 100% dog friendly. Who doesn’t want to take their little furry friends to Tofino and Ucluelet? Excellent!

Beautiful belly
Seriously? I love these images. How gorgeous is Shannon?
This session has been booked for ages, and it wasn’t until recently that we realized we were in the same prenatal yoga class.
I had such an amazing time creating these images… I feel so fortunate to meet such amazing people. To photograph such milestones in peoples lives, and to get to convey the beauty I see in everything.
I know for sure, being pregnant… you don’t exactly feel glamorous and pretty all the time (or most of the time), and I can’t tell you how much I love being able to show expectant mothers how gorgeous they really are. Shannon, you my dear… are radiant!

New look to the ol’ blog…

Today, after much anticipation, I celebrate a facelift for my Vancouver Island Photography blog. I’ve had this look to the blog locked in my head for months, and I’m so happy it has now come together.

The header image and the ones here, was a vision I have had for ages. I wanted something that was different from a usual headshot of myself. I wanted to portray who I am, what I do, and how very precious my images are to me. To capture my photos, my canvases, my art, my soul, in amongst the natural beauty of Vancouver Island.

I conveyed my vision to the ever amazing Shannon Andrews, (my incredibly talented sidekick/graphic designer/artist). Unsure how to prop up all of the photos, I didn’t want real easels (however that was my original thought) So, Shannon proclaimed, ‘we can make driftwood easels’. Surely my crafting abilities would not create something like this? But of course, Shannon can do basically anything, and in one night with the help from her ‘crazy with a drill’ helper Ryan… they created me the most beautiful, rustic display easels made with driftwood from right here in Campbell River.

We were ready for action. These images were created near Oyster River in Campbell River. With my wild vision, and Shannon behind the camera. Here is what we created for my updated website and blog. Thank you Ryan and Shannon for all of your help!

All of the old post images will have to stay the same size, unfortunately I just can’t justify the millions of hours it would take to resize each and every one of the thousands of images that are already on here. But, all posts from here on in, will have these gloriously larger images. Fabulous.

Of course, as usual, none of this would be possible without Jeremy Latham Thank you for everything.
