She Graduated.

Monday, June 30th, 2008

I am coming back to earth.
Slowly. After a very busy weekend.

The weekend began with my baby sisters graduation.

The same baby sister that I held for the first time two days before my 11th birthday.
The same one I used to ‘baby dance’ in front of the fish tank to get her to stop crying, the same one I used to sing baby beluga to RELENTLESSLY in more efforts to quiet her active vocal chords.

She was born with a perfect diamond of peach fuzz on her forehead. She hated when I french braided her hair (which was often) She did not like car rides, she was my favorite side kick. She cried for a month, and ripped my heart out when I left to work with Princess Cruises. She is the most sensitive human being I know. She has the bluest eyes, the biggest heart and has incredible dance moves. She brings laughter, joy and life to all of those around her (when she has had enough sleep) and is my favorite 18 year old ever.

18.
Graduating.

Her grad just made me cherish all of our 18 years of memories together, and look forward to many, many more.

I am incredibly grateful to see that my baby sister has grown into a wise, energized, comical, loving and kind human being (truth be known, she has been all of these things all along).

Congratulations Kaylee Marie! I love you more than anything.

Feet on rocks reflecting in waterWhen Susan and Dave pulled up for their engagement session… Susan was doing a shot of fireball.
Now, thats my kind of gal. “Taking the edge off” as she so eloquently put it! This wonderful couple met by chance, by fate, and I believe on a bike trail on a vacation? (correct me Susan if I’m wrong). In any case, Susans ‘girls’ weekend, quickly turned into being a bit more about Dave. Everywhere Susan and Dave go… you’re sure to find their awesome duo dog team… Mango and Chutney. Chutney has been with Susan for 9 amazing years!!! (He’s the little black one, thats more like a human than some humans I know) Mango is just pretty, and both are wonderful additions to their photos.

These two (disgustingly happy) love birds will be married at April Point this summer, and I can barely wait to photograph this wedding!!! Going along with the way the session started, we ventured to Freddie’s Pub along the water to polish off the evening with Tequila Caesars and Wings. (ROUGH LIFE) I absolutely can NOT wait to see Susan in her dress!!!
Stay tuned for images from their August 1st wedding.

Shadow Kiss
If I were to sum up the events of June 14 2008 in one word….
I would choose, FUN!
Everyone was smiling, the whole day! Shala just couldn’t stop laughing, and smiling and saying “I’m not going to cry!!” (however, she did crack during the speeches).

Together with their beautiful little girl Jenna, they were married @ the Maritime Heritage Center in Campbell River. The reception followed @ the brand new Quinsam Hall (which I never knew existed, but was gorgeous!) Alana from the All in One Party Shop headed up the decor and everything was perfect! This wedding to me, was all about moments. There’s nothing better than that!

Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

Touch of heaven
On the rainiest day imaginable, Cody and Alicia met us in Qualicum Beach for their engagement photos. We had re-scheduled so many times, and with their wedding fast approaching… we had to photograph them, rain or shine. And rain it did. Poured in fact… And it was awesome.
We found interesting little bits, all over the place, and wound up with some really cool images!
Cody had us all laughing the entire time, and I kept thinking what a beautiful bride Alicia is going to be!

Awesome family on Quadra IslandFrom the moment Andrea and I spoke on the phone, I knew we were going to make magic together.

Our shoot was at Rebecca Spit on Quadra Island. Bob pulled up in the most amazing old truck… Mariah came armed with her guitar, and the boys came prepared to be boys!!!

I was so incredibly inspired at the time, overwhelmed with opportunities and moments! I absolutely love that Andrea had so much faith in me and let me run wild with my wild ideas and creative craziness. Some days everything just fits together so perfectly. This was one of those days. I also had an amazing time editing these images, and hope you enjoy them as well.

Family walking in Campbell River
If you know this family, you love them.
Going into this shoot, I knew how much Scotia wanted her family, her children captured. We had talked about it a few times before, and some times you just know how important it is for a mom to have her babies beautiful little faces photographed. When I know how excited people are about their shoots, it does nothing short of spiral me into a wild whirl wind of inspiration.
I loved spending time with this bunch, and was so excited when the Dawson started flashing smiles my way! (something he is usually reluctant to do initially!) What a beautiful bunch!

40 years?!?

Terry and Maureen
I can only imagine what it takes to hold a marriage together for this long.

40 YEARS!

I know of marriages that have lasted all of 2 weeks. 40 years seems like somewhat of an old wives tale. The mythological creature you hear about, but never see.

I met Terry and Maureen along with their 2 sons and their beautiful families this past weekend. Upon introductions and getting everyone polished up, hair combed, and tucked in… Maureen said “40 years ago today, I was stepping into my wedding dress”. I had goosebumps.

I was instantly inspired. Here are my favorite images from their session.

Model shots of erica
I’ve known Erica, since… forever.
So when I was asked to photograph her to start up a modeling portfolio, I was happy to set it up!
We did the initial session last year (see photo above), and when the modeling agencies got a hold of her, the phone was ringing off the hook! She called me nervously last week, to say that she was off to Asia for a modeling contract, and needed more images.

I was excited for her and again, glad to help her with more for her modeling portfolio!
I wish her nothing but success and a wealth of worldly experiences! She is such a sweet gal, with such a good heart…. Good luck Erica, and don’t forget about us when you’re famous!!!

Sheena Laying Down

This post is all about Sheena and Trevor and their maternity session last week! I love so many of their images, that it truly is hard for me to decide which to post.

Something about tattoos and bellies and black and white, that I just find incredibly beautiful. Maybe its the stereo typing that commonly goes along with tattoos, being hard, being tough or rough… and then the soft, romantic light… the beautiful, magnificent power of a woman carrying a baby inside of her… and then the love that created the little one in the first place, protectively holding onto the belly.

Whatever it is about this shoot. I love it.

monica and caleb married
Monica and Caleb decided last minute to elope and be married in Mexico.
I had the pleasure of photographing them when they returned home, before and at their reception with all of their family and friends at Oyster Bay Resorts in Campbell River. What a fun couple, full of laughs, love and amazing times ahead!
Here are a few of my favorite images.
